SWAT 4 puts you in direct control of one of Americas most well trained and well equipped police keeping forces and pits you against devilishly smart AI opponents in fully realised, intricate maps.

The Special Weapons and Tactics teams have long been seen as one of the worlds premier police units. Their advanced training and state of the art equipment have seen them carry out some of the most daring raids and missions in police history. Since their inception in the 1960s as riot control units, SWAT teams have grown in number and scope decade after decade to the point where they are now deployed between 50,000 and 80,000 times a year. The majority of their deployments is serving search warrants usually associated with drug crimes but they are also routinely deployed for any number of armed response requirements including hostage situations and armed stand offs.

SWAT 4 gives you the opportunity to act as part of a SWAT team, giving orders to your elite unit as you fight alongside them in the field. The game has 13 seperate single player missions as well as the ability to play through the campaign in co-operative mode with friends. The missions cover all the expected scenarios from search and seizure missions to finding out the fate of an undercover cop to diffusing explosives.

The real selling point of the game and the series as a whole is it's dedication to realism. You are rewarded for minimum collateral damage and using as little lethal force as possible. This means that if you want to get a perfect score then a lot of planning and consideration needs to go into each mission. It's entirely possible to win the game by running into every encounter all guns blazing, but it's risky and you're score will suffer as a result.

All in all the pace and level of technical skill required in SWAT 4 may put some people off but if you're looking for a more thorough and rewarding experience than a lot of modern day shooters, try this one out.
